Risk Assessment


Our business has followed Government and Industry Covid-19 Guidelines, has a covid 19 risk assessment and hygiene policy in place and a documented process to maintain cleanliness and social distancing.
Risk Assessments will be reviewed in response to changes in Government guidelines.
During your stay at the WEST POINT HOTEL, our priority is the safety and well-being of yourself and our staff – we strive to create an environment where we all have peace of mind.

Covid-19 Risk and Hygiene Assessment WEST POINT HOTEL. This risk Assessment has been carried out following the guidelines on the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) website www.hse.gov.uk

Potential Hazards:

  1. 1. Contamination of the site by guests/staff who are asymptomatic or who develop symptoms whilst in situ.
    2. Transmission of the virus between guests/staff/contractors/suppliers.
    3. Cleaning processes ineffective.
    4. Transmission of the virus on the bedding/soft furnishings.
    5. Transmission of the virus to staff after guest’s departure.
    6. Added risk -infection of Legionella from standing water

Who might be harmed and how?
All potential hazards may harm guests, staff, subsequent guests, guest’s contacts, maintenance contractors and the local population.
They may be harmed by becoming infected with Covid-19 from a contaminated environment or by airborne droplet infection.

Actions to Control Risk.

  • 1. Anyone who is exhibiting symptoms or who has any reason to believe that may have come into contact with the virus for up to 14 days prior to their booking must follow the government instruction to self –isolate and follow NHS guidelines. Therefore, they should not arrive at the West Point Hotel.
    In the event of a local lockdown in your area we will ask you not to come to the property. If an outbreak occurred at the property or if the owners became symptomatic, bookings may need to be cancelled at short notice.
    Anyone in one of the vulnerable groups identified by the government should follow the government guidance applicable to them at the time.
    Contractors who are exhibiting symptoms or who have any reason to believe that they may have come into contact with the virus should not come to the Hotel and follow NHS guidelines.
    On arrival all guests will have their temperature taken by a laser thermometer anyone in the party with a temperature higher than the adult range of 36-5*C to 37-2*C the whole party will not be admitted.
    If guests develop symptoms during their stay, they must immediately self-isolate in their room and phone the owner on 07968913241. Guests must make immediate plans to return home, as there may be a time delay into obtaining a test by phoning 111, it may be preferable for the guests to do this from their own home. Guests would be responsible for organising their own transport home and would be liable for any costs incurred from an extended stay. The room would left be closed for 36 hours before cleaning.

  • 2. Guests must follow guidelines on social distancing and must remain 2M apart indoors.
    The owner will stay 2M apart from guests during welcoming and at checkout (and may wear a face covering). We ask that a registration form is completed –These details will be retained for 21 days.
    Each room will have their own designated breakfast room, so we regret there would be no communal lounge during this time. Breakfast will be pre-ordered the night before.
    Breakfast will be served by the owner observing distancing rules, the owner may wear a face covering.
    Guests are asked to be aware of people leaving the other bedrooms if occupied and stand back to avoid breaching the 2M rule in corridors.
    If you need to speak with the owner during your stay, please ring the bell at the reception desk and remain at the 2M marking. Please do not enter the kitchen. Hand sanitizers are available next to the bell, alternatively contact by ringing 07968913241 or 01492 530331.
    It will not be possible to clean your room during your stay, we ask that hospitality trays for refurbishment, rubbish bins, and toiletry trays for refurbishment and towels for changing (placed in bag provided) and be left outside your bedroom door.

  • 3. As guests may not exhibit symptoms until after they return home, we will treat every bedroom as if the virus is present.
    We will leave 24 hours between bookings to protect the cleaner and guests ensuring cleaning of the highest standard are carried out.
    We will clean all surfaces and touch points with antibacterial household detergent followed by a thorough cleansing using a fogging machine with an appropriate antiviral agent that meets BS EN 1276 and BS EN 14476. The disinfectant will be left in contact with surfaces for the recommended time.
    Under current guidelines in Wales the breakfast room will be closed but room service is offered.
    Trays will be placed on tables outside doors and there will be a quick check a few minutes later to ensure the guest is happy with their meal.
    All trays and cutlery will be sanitised before delivery and once finished guests will call reception for the empty dishes to be collected from the table outside the room.
    Touch points on corridors, door handles, call bell and stair handrails will be disinfected regularly throughout the day.
    Please use hand sanitizer when entering the property, when entering and leaving the breakfast room and when leaving your bedroom.

  • 4. We will launder linens and towels at 60 degrees C and use different linens and towels for subsequent guests.
    We will change and launder all mattress and pillow protectors between guests
    If we suspect that the guest has been symptomatic we will steam clean pillows, mattress and curtains after departure.
    To reduce areas of contamination all unnecessary items such as ornaments, flowers and cushions will be removed
    It is important that the rooms are ventilating so please leave the window open when leaving your room.

  • 5. All communal areas will be cleaned and disinfected immediately after guest departure i.e. corridor,
    touch points and stair hand rails.
    Bedrooms will be closed for 24 hours after departure before commencing cleaning and disinfecting.
    Linen will be removed and bagged, taking care not to shake to disperse dust particles and not placed on the floor or other surfaces.
    All cleaning must be wet cleaning with no dry dusting of sweeping.
    Cleaning and disinfecting will take place following written principles and schedules.
    Rubbish will be double bagged and placed in normal waste, in the event of a suspected case rubbish will be doubled by the humble left for 72 hours before putting in normal waste.
    If suspected case, linens and towels will be sealed in red water-soluble bags and the left for 72 hours before laundering (within bags).
    The cleaner will wear disposable gloves facemask and apron and if a suspected case - a visor.

  • 6. To protect the hosts and guests from Legionella we have regularly flushed the whole water system for more than 2 minutes in each bathroom, we start off with flushing the toilet 4 times then let the hand basin taps run for 2 minutes or more to let both hot and cold water pass through, in the rooms that have a bath, the bath taps are run for 2 minutes or more to let both hot and cold water pass through and each shower is flushed through using disinfectant to the shower head. The showerhead is removed and the shower is run for 2 minutes or more. The showerhead is disinfected before re-fitting.

This assessment will be operational from the start of business 12th July 2020and be reviewed by David Michael Alistair Lee in accordance with government guidelines
